Co-curricular

At ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍÃ, we have a proud tradition of offering high-quality co-curricular programs that cater to the needs and interests of the individual. These programs support our girl’s academic, social, emotional and physical wellbeing, as well as fostering supportive, collaborative and creative communities across the Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 continuum.

. Registration information and payment links are on the microsite.

Our co-curricular programs offer girls the opportunity to learn new skills as well as enhance their existing abilities. We encourage them to discover new interests, work with others in a range of environments, acquire their leadership style and broaden their relationships beyond their immediate peers.

Our aim is to deliver innovative programs that empower our students and prepare them for their life beyond ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍÃ.

The School has tailored the co-curricular program around The Round Square Discovery Framework to align the philosophical IDEALS to the students’ application of the character attributes.

The 12 character attributes of the Discovery Framework are:

  • Ability to solve problems
  • Appreciation of diversity
  • Commitment to sustainability
  • Communication skills
  • Courage
  • Compassion
  • Inventiveness
  • Inquisitiveness
  • Self awareness
  • Sense of responsibility
  • Teamwork skills
  • Tenacity

Through the framework, girls are able to explore, demonstrate and use these attributes to critically reflect on their growth throughout their journey at ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍÃ. As a result, ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà girls can articulate who they have become, based on the programs in which they have participated.

Duke of Edinburgh

Learning can take place anywhere and any time. ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà facilitates the wonderful Duke of Edinburgh program to encourage leadership, independence, personal challenge and take students into the great outdoors of Australia.

What’s it all about?

The  is a voluntary program of activities for anyone aged between 14 years and 25 years. It offers an individual challenge and encourages young people to undertake exciting, constructive and enjoyable activities in their free time. Participating girls in Year 9 to Year 12 at ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà are fully supported by ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà staff in their Duke of Edinburgh Award levels. The scheme is non-competitive, allowing anyone with enterprise and effort to gain an award. ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà puts forward one of the largest groups of awardees in Sydney schools each year, acknowledging the Gold, Silver and Bronze Award recipients throughout the year.

This Award Scheme challenges young people through a balanced program of practical, physical and cultural activities. These involve:

  • Service (helping the community)
  • Skills (a hobby, skill or interest)
  • Physical Recreation (sport, dance, fitness)
  • Expeditions (on foot, cycle, horseback or water)
  • Residential Project – Gold only (an enterprise with people not known to the participant)

Through this program ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà students have the opportunity to have a lot of fun, challenge themselves, build new friendships and gain valuable experience through leadership and adventure.

An additional benefit of the Duke of Edinburgh Award is that students are able to meet the requirements for the Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) component of their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme of study in their final years if that is their chosen stream.

Mind Challenges
(TOM and da Vinci)

As part of ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍÃ's commitment to catering for gifted and talented students the school enters Junior and Senior teams in Tournament of Minds and da Vinci Decathlon each year.

Tournament of Minds

is a national problem solving program that requires mixed-age teams to solve demanding, open-ended challenges from one of the following disciplines: Applied Technology, Language and Literature, Maths and Engineering, and Social Sciences.

All students who are interested in creative problem solving are invited to participate in a lunchtime club during Term 2, and the final team, selected early in Term 3, will then continue to work together independently to prepare for the New South Wales competition, held in August/September.

In the last six years, ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà has achieved a remarkable TOM record being State Champions, National Champions and has received State and/or Regional Honours each year. This year is no different, with the Applied Technology Team being awarded Tournament Honours at the State Finals.

da Vinci Decathlon

ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà has competed in the since its inception at Knox Grammar School and approaches the 10 categories of the academic challenge with huge enthusiasm. The competition is fun but fierce with more than 35 schools competing, answering difficult questions and problems in areas such as decoding, forensic sleuthing, poetry and creative design.

Round Square

Round Square is a worldwide association of schools sharing unique and ambitious goals.

Round Square is a worldwide association of over 150 schools in 40 countries – of which ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà is an international member – who share unique and ambitious goals.

The Round Square approach does not focus on what is taught but rather how learning takes place. It recognises that learning is most effective when it is practical, cross-cultural and collaborative, and when it is infused through a broad spectrum of inter, extra and co-curricular activities.

In order to prepare for adult life, young people must be encouraged to discover and embrace the similarities and differences between cultures and nationalities in ways that promote meaningful and lasting understanding, acceptance and respect. This is done through exploration and application of the IDEALS:

I nternationalism
D emocracy
E nvironmentalism
A dventure
L eadership
S ervice

The IDEALS are the pillars of Round Square and are a key focus within the ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà Ethos.

Programs initiated by Round Square help institutionally and culturally different, but like-minded, schools to work together through service projects, annual conferences, exchanges and outdoor expeditions.

Contribute at School Level

Once a week, a Round Square “Baraza” (a Swahili word meaning public/community meeting), is held, led by a leadership team formed of girls from the Senior Years. At these meetings the students discuss and work on projects that address one or more of the six Round Square pillars, including Rainbow Week, a student-led celebration of international diversity run in partnership with the Student Representative Council.

'What I find wonderful about Round Square: It's student led initiatives that can help the wider school community.' Keertana Avalur, Year 12

Actively Participate in a Round Square Conference

Each year, Round Square schools send delegations of representatives to an international conference held at a member school. Discussions, related to the theme of the conference, examine topics of importance to the member schools and the world. Friendships are made through activities, expeditions and events organised by the host school. Visitors are introduced, not only to the host school, but also to its country, culture and environment.
